Pharmacy Residency Program

PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

Requirements

Submit all standard application materials in PhORCAS

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Letter of Intent (addressed to “Resident Selection Committee”)
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Official copy of college/university transcript for pharmacy school to PhORCAS
  • Register for the National Matching Service

Program Information

Core Rotations

  • Orientation – 4 weeks

  • Infectious Disease – 5 weeks

  • General Medicine – 4~5 weeks

  • Internal Medicine – 4~5 weeks

  • Critical Care I – 6 weeks

  • Emergency Medicine – 4~5 weeks

Elective Rotations

  • Subacute – 4 weeks

  • Community Hospital Practice at La Palma Intercommunity Hospital – 4 weeks

  • Administration II at Centinela Hospital Medical Center – 4 weeks

  • Ambulatory Care at Vermont V.O. Pharmacy – 4 weeks

  • Critical Care II at Centinela Hospital Medical Center – 4 weeks

  • Psychiatry – 4 weeks

Longitudinal Rotations

  • Administration 1 – 2 weeks of orientation and longitudinal from August to June

  • Medication Safety – 2 weeks of orientation and longitudinal from August to June
  • Project – 4 weeks and ongoing

  • Staffing – 3 weeks of orientation prior to starting weekend staffing and every other weekend

  • Teaching (optional) – Participation in 6 workshops, 1 large group teaching, 1 small group teaching, 2 OSCEs, and precepting APPE students

  • IPPE/APPE students
  • Teaching Certification from Marshall B. Ketchum University
