Anaheim, Calif., Jun. 11, 2012 – West Anaheim Medical Center is proud to announce today that more than 30 uninsured patients received free surgeries, following the annual Anaheim Health Fair that 1,100 people attended earlier this month.
The 34 surgeries, performed on patients that were pre-qualified at the Health Fair, were completed during a span of 2 days in a total of 16 hours. West Anaheim Medical Center’s four OR rooms were used for surgeries that included: general, hernia repair, gynecological, cataracts and a variety of other eye surgeries. Patients were then provided post-op care free of charge from Lestonnac Free Clinic.

The patients were selected from a group of hundreds during the health fair that occurred two weeks ago. In conjunction with Anekant Community Center and the City of Anaheim, the health fair, held at West Anaheim Medical Center, was designed to serve low-income families and the uninsured with medical exams that included: physical exams, heart checks (EKG), cholesterol checks, diabetes and anemia tests, bone strength measurements, women’s services, eye exams, dental consultations, chiropractic and acupuncture services, and consultations with medical and surgical specialists.
A team of nearly 50 people volunteered their time to work this weekend during the free surgeries. The volunteers consisted of over 20 community members, a number of physicians from all over Southern California, and a multitude of man power from West Anaheim Medical Center employees.
All surgeries that were given over the weekend were completed at a 100 percent success rate. The annual Anaheim Health Fair crossed the benchmark with having the most patients in its six-year history and for the first time administering free surgeries.
